Supporting Croydon
Since the creation of John Whitgift Foundation 426 years ago, we’ve provided care and education for generations of families in Croydon. Throughout our history, we’ve sustained the Foundation’s charitable activities with the income generated from the land and assets entrusted to us by Archbishop John Whitgift. Our mission today remains unchanged from the founding of the charity in 1596, to provide care and education for the people of Croydon.
As a charity, we’ve seen first-hand the impact of the current financial difficulties and have felt the effect of rising costs which like many charities has affected our organisation. During our many years of serving Croydon, we’ve weathered many difficult financial periods and have continued to operate to the fullest of our ability and will continue to function long into the future. In the latest annual journal, the financial figures highlight a higher expenditure than income for the financial year. We can assure the people of Croydon that even in times of fluctuating finances we will continue to fulfil all our charitable financial commitments including our bursary programme and subsidised care. All the branches of the Foundation; Old Palace, Trinity, Whitgift School, Whitgift Care & Carers Information are well funded and continue to offer exemplary service.
To help steer and guide the Foundation we have our court of Governors. With a range of educational, care and business backgrounds our 15 Governors ensure the Foundation fulfils our Founder’s wishes. With this leadership structure, we bring a wide range of experiences and backgrounds into the Foundation to help steer and direct John Whitgift Foundation. We’re proud of the work we do in Croydon and consider it a great privilege to continue to serve its local community.
